hrough four decades, architect Anthony Belluschi has polished his craft to become one of today’s most productive architects specializing in the design of large retail projects. Urban Places Public Spaces: The Architecture of Anthony Belluschi is a survey of his most formative large-scale developments. Projects include Belluschi’s 1988 renovation of the American Airline Terminal in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, Park Meadows, a “retail resort” in Littleton, Colorado, as well as the design of Granada Town Center, which is to be Saudi Arabia’s first regional shopping complex. In addition to retail work, through the years Belluschi has participated in several projects involving high-rise buildings in downtown Chicago. His assignments have required a reinterpretation of urban office buildings. He has successfully transformed and revitalized many of these structures into enlivened mixed-use commercial spaces that are once again relevant in the ever-evolving urban fabric.

Anthony Belluschi became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2003 and he continues to explore and develop with each and every project. He is concerned with style, structure, place-making and architectural design’s role in shaping the retail environment. From Gomez’s text:

A tangible, visible sense of quality in the built environment, Belluschi says, helps foster a feeling “of ownership that keeps people coming back to a particular place.” That sense of “ownership,” he suggests, is linked to the sense of belonging or delight one feels about one’s favorite urban places.
