his volume presents 15 of the firm’s most important projects, including Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, Loew’s Boston Hotel, the Rochester Riverfront Redevelopment projects, and the Superblock Housing Competition at the University of Pennsylvania. Color photography, detailed drawings, and insightful text illustrate the architects’ process and the resulting built environments, which take a humanistic stance on public and private space. William Rawn contributed three essays, “A Room For Music,” “Where the City Meets the Water,” and “Campus and the City,” which present the philosophy behind his architecture.

In his introduction to the volume, Raul Barreneche writes that Rawn “is not purely an academic, nor a large-scale commercial practitioner, nor a boutique designer. He is an intelligent architect with tremendous sensitivity to the city and the people who live, work, and play in it. Rawn is a great champion of cities.” And Rawn’s love for and interest in cities are made clear throughout the book.
